Recently I’ve been exercising a lot more and trying to lose some weight, hopefully by the time my girlfriend gets back from Malaysia I will be back to my ideal size. So far I’ve lost 12 pounds, still going.
Ran into this article on MSN, kinda cool. You can check it out when you have time.

Do you like the new MSN.com? Looks OK to me, but it is a lot more streamlined than before.

What is the definition of “Friend”? Do you know? I bet everyone knows yet everyone has its own definition. I have been wondering about this these days, wondering how I should define my own friend.
Well, I looked it in Wikipedia and it redirected me to the word “Friendship”:
Friendship is a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection. Friends will welcome each other’s company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship. A friend is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them.
Value that is found in friendships is often the result of a friend demonstrating on a consistent basis:
- The tendency to desire what is best for each other.
- Sympathy and empathy.
- Honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth.
- Mutual understanding.
It is often considered that a true friend is capable of deep feelings, which may be inexpressible, except in times of great trouble, when they come to one’s aid.
In a comparison of personal relationships, friendship is considered to be closer than acquaintanceship, although there is a range of degrees of intimacy in both friendships and acquaintances. For many people, friendship and acquaintanceship lie along the same continuum.
The principal disciplines studying friendship are sociology, anthropology and zoology. Various theories of friendship have been proposed, among which are social psychology, social exchange theory, equity theory, relational dialectics, and attachment styles.
Very good definition, then I looked it up in Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it defines Friend as:
Main Entry: friend
Pronunciation: ‘frend
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English frend, from Old English frEond; akin to Old High German friunt friend, Old English frEon to love, frEo free
1 a : one attached to another by affection or esteem b : ACQUAINTANCE
2 a : one that is not hostile b : one that is of the same nation, party, or group
3 : one that favors or promotes something (as a charity)
4 : a favored companion
5 capitalized : a member of a Christian sect that stresses Inner Light, rejects sacraments and an ordained ministry, and opposes war — called also Quaker
- friend·less /’fren(d)-l&s/ adjective
- friend·less·ness noun
- be friends with : to have a friendship or friendly relationship with
- make friends with : to establish a friendship or friendly relations with
Let’s see who are my friends:
1. The tendency to desire what is best for each other.
I honestly wish what is best for almost everyone I know, except a few that really get on my nerves, but I do wish them the best sometimes, if not always.
2. Sympathy and empathy.
This narrows it down to less than 20 people (Not including my girlfriend, parents and relatives).
3. Honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth.
I am generally honest, but in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth, I tend to avoid the situation. Very few times I spoke the truth that hurts, which means I must have very few true friends.
4. Mutual understanding.
I try my best to understand other people, and try to walk in their shoes and see how it felt. However this is easier said than done. Many times, I mean many times I found myself being selfish and inconsiderate.
Of course I can only answer those questions from my perspective, my “friends” have to answer those on their part as well to match up, in order to determine who is truly my “Friend”.
Maybe I’ll send out a survey and see how the result turns out.

Not sure if you use a RSS reader, but if you write blogs, you’d better learn about what RSS is. For a better definition, you can go to Wikipedia.
Let me give you a simple example, say you have 10 friends that write blogs. How long would it take you to go to their sites and read their blogs? How do you know who has updated their blogs and who hasn’t without going to their site? If this seems impossible for you, then you might wanna get to know what RSS is.
Well, you can imagine your blog as a radio station, and the RSS is the radio wave. It publishes the content you wrote and send them out. For someone to be able to listen to the radio station, they’ll need a radio. That is a RSS Reader. The RSS feed also has an address, which tells the reader where to look for. With a RSS Reader, the contents of blogs come to you, rather than you go to various sites and look for them. As you can see, it saves you A LOT of time.
After you learn all about RSS, I got 2 suggestions for you on RSS Readers. There are a lot of choices out there, but I like RSS Bandit and Feedreader the best. Both are free.
